A Medina City Council member has filed with the Medina County Board of Elections to run as a Democrat for Commissioner Tim Smith’s seat in the 2016 general election in November.
Mark Kolesar, 42, has served as Medina’s Ward 3 councilman for more than 11 years. No one else filed to run for the seat in the Democratic primary in March.
Kolesar ran against Commissioner Pat Geissman in 2012, but lost with 42 percent of votes compared with 58 percent for Geissman.
Kolesar has worked the past four years in the sales department of Conviber Inc., a Medina company that distributes conveyer systems. Before that, he worked in the mortgage industry.
Smith was appointed to his commissioner’s seat in January after Steve Hambley was elected to the Ohio House.
Smith filed with the elections board to retain his seat in 2016. He faces a March 15 Republican primary challenge from William Hutson, of Westfield Center.
