Kevin Kabasan was one among many convention goers riding the Rapid Transit Authority redline to the Republican National Convention Monday morning.
“I’m riding on the Trump train,” he said.
The Brunswick resident and Vietnam era army veteran said his reasons for coming to the convention were simple — Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
“I love the message he brings,” he said. “It’s his truthfulness, his not wanting to walk on eggshells.”
He is also hopeful about Trump’s economic and military policies.
“Our military is weak enough,” he said. “I believe he’ll bolster our strength in the military.”
Kabasan said he’s been on the Trump train since early in the 2015-2016 primary season and he has the swag to prove it. On the ride to the convention, he wore a Trump baseball hat — a more seasonally appropriate version of the Trump beanie that he broke in this winter.
Kabasan also cheered Trump during the candidate’s rally at the I-X Center in advanced of the Ohio primary March 12. He hopes to be able to hear Trump and other speakers Monday and Thursday at the RNC.
Kabasan said he has faith in the people of Cleveland that — like the parade for the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this summer — the convention will be a safe event.
“I’m hoping the people of Cleveland are going to make it peaceful,” he said.
