AKRON — Austin Hanna is heading to the state boys tennis tournament with a perfect record.
The Cloverleaf junior claimed the Akron Division II District championship Saturday by beating Hawken’s Ryan Leizman 6-2, 6-2.
Earlier in the day, Hanna defeated Norton’s Justin Csepe for the fourth time this spring, posting a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the semifinals at Springside Racquet Club.
The two-time Gazette MVP joins Colts alumni Ethan Dunbar (2009, ’10) and Jacob Dunbar (2013) as the only players in Medina County history to advance to state while undefeated.
Hanna will carry a 27-0 record into the state tournament, which begins Friday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
A two-time state qualifier, Hanna has won 54-of-55 sets on the year and has a 113-23 record in games during the postseason. He also captured the Portage Trail Conference Tournament and Rocky River Sectional championships.
