Wadsworth senior Mason McMillen committed to continue his football career as a preferred walk-on at the University of Akron.
The 6-foot, 205-pounder was the Suburban League National Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Northeast Inland District co-Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-Ohio selection. The Grizzlies finished 12-1 and reached the Region 7 championship game.
McMillen finished the season with Medina County highs for tackles (142), tackles for loss (22½) and sacks (9). He had 310 tackles, 40½ TFLs and 18½ sacks in his three-year career.
Akron went 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference last season. The Zips fired coach Terry Bowden and replaced him with Northeast Ohio native Tom Arth, who was the head coach at Chattanooga.
