MEDINA — Police arrested two people and confiscated a sword, syringe and pills from a vehicle Wednesday morning on West Smith Road.
Police Chief Ed Kinney said a Ford Explorer was pulled over in the 700 block of West Smith Road, near the Medina County Fairgrounds, when a man bailed out of the SUV and ran at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
“There was a very short foot chase,” he said.
Jennifer Fonseca, 26, of North Olmsted, and Carlos Caraballo, 34, of the 400 block of E. Union St., Medina, were arrested on warrants. Caraballo also was charged with driving under a court-ordered OVI suspension, possessing drug abuse instruments and carrying concealed weapons, all first-degree misdemeanors.
Kinney said a 27-inch black sword was seized from the car, along with a syringe, pills and a plastic bag with a white residue, which were sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Richfield for testing. Caraballo was being held on $2,500 bond at the Medina County Jail on Thursday afternoon.
Records from Medina municipal and Medina County common pleas courts show Caraballo has a lengthy criminal history including possession of heroin and trafficking in heroin.
Fonseca was released from jail Thursday.
