CANTON — The Archbishop Hoban football team started its Division II State final with a bang and finished with a hammer in a 42-14 win over Cincinnati Winton Woods.
The Knights (14-1) opened the scoring Thursday on the first play from scrimmage with a 73-yard touchdown pass from Shane Hamm to Garrett Houser.
They never let off the gas after that, winning the championship at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Scoring 14 points in the first 1:41 against the Warriors (13-2), Hoban won its third straight title.
Hamm finished 8-for-13 for 243 yards and tied a D-II record with four touchdowns passes. Houser was his primary receiver, catching four passes for 141 yards and two scores.
Mason Tipton also got in on the action with two catches for 59 yards with both going for touchdowns.
Hoban’s senior class went 48-7 in four years and 42-3 the last three seasons.
