A Spencer man pleaded not guilty Monday to aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault stemming from a fatal crash April 20 in Spencer Township.
Allen Bugg, 58, of the 7500 block Spencer Road, faces two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one a second-degree felony and one a third-degree felony, and two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, one a third-degree felony and one a fourth-degree felony.
About 8 p.m. April 20, a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup driven by Bugg was traveling west on New London Eastern Road when it ran through a stop sign and struck a southbound 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix on state Route 301, according to a Ohio Highway Patrol report. The impact sent the Pontiac off the road where it hit a utility pole.
The driver of the Pontiac, Randolph Stiles, 55, of Elyria, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Stiles’ car, 48-year-old Lisa Wright, was flown to Summa Akron City Hospital where she was treated and released.
Bugg and his passenger, wife Lois, were transported to Lodi General Hospital. Lois Bugg, 56, was flown to Akron General via helicopter and later released.
According to the crash report, Bugg’s blood-alcohol content was 0.137 percent.
Medina County Common Pleas Judge Christopher J. Collier scheduled Bugg’s jury trial for April 10.
Bugg is being held at the county jail on $500,000 bond.
