A police officer from Iowa who saw a story in The Gazette has aided the Wadsworth Police Department in identifying a theft suspect.
Wadsworth police Lt. Dave Dorland said he received a call Thursday from the Iowa officer, who was in Medina County visiting relatives and read the story about a woman who is accused of scamming several financial institutions into giving her cash advances on a credit card.
Two were Medina County Federal Credit Unions in Medina and Wadsworth. Two others were in Twinsburg and Parma.
“(The Iowa officer) immediately recognized her as the same person who recently committed similar thefts in his jurisdiction,” Dorland said a statement. “The information he provided enabled us to confirm the suspect’s identity.”
Dorland said Wadsworth police will present its case to a Medina County grand jury next week. The suspect’s identity will not be released until she is formally charged, he said.
“Without the publicity and exposure, it is likely this case would not have been solved,” Dorland said.
