Brunswick creates part-time administration job

BRUNSWICK — City Council created a pay range for a new part-time position — manager of administrative services.

According to the resolution Council passed establishing a pay range of $9.50-$35 an hour, it is expected the current full-time position will be downsized to part time (no more than 28 hours a week) and be included in the 2019 budget proposal.

“So basically, we have the position presently … but we only have a full-time pay range, so that kind of locks us in,” City Manager Carl DeForest said, noting that if the person in the position now were to retire or leave for any other reason, the city would have to hire another full-time staff member.

DeForest said adding a part-time pay scale opens up opportunities when hiring.

He said if the city hired someone right out of college or with little experience, the pay would be closer to the $9.50 range.

The more experience an applicant has, the higher on the pay scale he or she would be.
