LODI— The 37th annual Lodi Sweet Corn Festival parade Thursday night will kick off three days of all things corn.

“Some of the favorite events are the classics, which will be the parade on Thursday,” festival coordinator Yvonne Sivard said Monday. “Of course, we have fresh sweet corn.”

Lineup for the parade will begin on Railroad Street at 5:30 p.m. before officially stepping off at 6:30 p.m.

The parade, which will feature a “made in Ohio theme,” then will make its way to the festival grounds at Letha House Field off Wooster Street, she said.

Trophies will be awarded in multiple categories for parade entries including “best of theme.”

Squirt guns and water balloons will be allowed in specific areas of the parade route.

The midway officially will open at 4 p.m. Thursday and feature games and rides as well as sweet corn and traditional fair food including elephant ears, Italian sausage sandwiches and ice cream.

Sivard said new additions to the festival include a dodge ball tournament Thursday and NERF games Saturday.

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend the festival that pays homage to the summer treat.

“Sweet corn is Lodi’s best-known crop and favorite crop, and it has been for many, many years,” Sivard said.
