MEDINA TWP. — Ohio residents have until Tuesday to register to vote if they want a say in important federal, state and local races.

With the Nov. 6 general election right around the corner and early voting set to begin Wednesday, the Medina County Board of Elections wants to remind residents to register to vote before the deadline if they wish to cast a ballot next month.

Medina County Board of Elections Director Carol Lawler said Oct. 9 is the last day to fill out voter registration and address or name change forms, all of which have to be received 30 days before the general election.

Registration can be completed online or through the mail.

The forms can be found at www.medinacountyelections.org/how-do-i-register-to-vote.

“The very next day, Oct. 10, we start early absentee voting and it’s in our office. We vote in person,” Lawler said.

Absentee ballots will be mailed to voters who have applied for them Oct. 10.

During the weeks that early voting is going on, the elections’ office will be open an extra half an hour, with hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The office will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

During the week of Oct. 29 through Nov. 2, the office will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to make it easier for residents to vote.

“The last day you can vote early is the day before the election, Nov. 5,” Lawler said.

She said that the office will only be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.

When Election Day arrives, voters are required to bring a valid and unexpired ID with them to their polling location. Some of the forms of ID include a valid Ohio driver’s license, state ID card or a military ID. The board of elections provides a full list of acceptable forms of ID on their website.

Information about what will be on the ballot and where to go to vote on Nov. 6 can be found at www.medinacountyelections.org. Anyone who is unsure if they are currently registered to vote, can find voting information on the board of elections website.
