MONTVILLE TWP. - Organizers are expecting as many as 2,000 visitors to the sixth annual Scary Walking Path and trunk or treat at 6-8:30 p.m. today at Cobblestone Park.
There is a 1,500-foot scary walk, as well as a Not So Spooky path for the younger children.
The festivities are free, but donations are welcome. Suggested donations are $5 for individuals, $10 for families and $250 for businesses or family sponsors.
Cobblestone Park is located next to Waite Elementary School on Cobblestone Drive.
Those interested in loading up their cars with candy for trunk or treat should arrive at 5:45 p.m.
The Not So Spooky path starts at 6 p.m. and the Scary Path is set for 7 p.m.
Proceeds will go to D.A.R.E., the Medina County Police Activities League, the Jessica Schaffer Memorial and into next year's spooky event.
"It gets bigger every year," said Rebecca Byrne, Montville police's executive assistant.
The event will go on rain or shine.
"We're praying for good weather," Montville Fiscal Officer Mary Pawlowski said.
Some of the new sights are a scary jack-in-the-box, a poltergeist scene and an appearance by the Slender Man, a fictional supernatural character.
After taking a walk on the wild side, children can attend a dance party in the pavilion. The Peace Works concession stand will also be open.
"It's going to be amazing," Montville Trustee Sally Albrecht said via email. "We have so many new additions and so many devoted volunteers working together. That really speaks to the quality of Montville Township and (our) community events."
