Medina’s holiday kickoff, the 34th annual Candlelight Walk in the Historic District, starts today.

There is much to see and do during the three-day event organized by Main Street Medina, which includes the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree in the Uptown Park gazebo.

This annual event attracts more than 25,000 guests to the city of Medina, with an estimated economic impact of more than $250,000, and showcases the restored 19th-century architecture that is home to more than 75 independently owned boutiques, restaurants and shops.

Here is everything you need to know about this year’s event:

Traffic and parking

Traffic around Medina Square will be restricted until Sunday.

Broadway Street between East Washington and East Liberty streets will be narrowed to one lane, northbound traffic only. East Smith Road between South Broadway and South Jefferson streets will remain closed for utility work and resurfacing.

The Medina Square will be closed to all vehicular traffic 5:15-6:45 p.m. Saturday for the Holiday Parade of Lights and the Light Up the Night fireworks display. In addition, parking adjacent to the Medina Square will be blocked off; no parking is permitted 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Parking will be available on the outer ring of the Square, adjacent to commercial businesses. There is ample public parking in the parking deck behind the county courthouse, the city lots on West Liberty and South Court streets, and the county lots on North and South Elmwood avenues, as well as behind the County Administration building on North Broadway Street.

In addition, the public is welcome to park at the former Hawkins Grocery Store, now owned by Medina County Habitat for Humanity, at 233 W. Lafayette Road throughout the weekend, or at the Habitat for Humanity Restore at 342 E. Smith Road this evening and after 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

A public parking map is available at mainstreetmedina.com. Carpooling or walking from public parking outside the Historic District is encouraged.
