BRUNSWICK –– Brunswick city officials are hoping to increase membership at the city’s recreation center with a deal pegged around the holiday gift giving season.

During Monday’s City Council meeting, Recreation Center Superintendent Taylor Scott announced the recreation center’s last membership sale of the year.

“Tonight, I wanted to talk about our 50 percent off annual membership sale that will be taking place throughout the month of December,” Scott said.

“It’s a great way to work on your health for the holidays or for a gift for someone.”

The 50 percent off sale runs four times a year for two weeks in February, two weeks in May, the whole month of August and the whole month of December, Scott said.

“Plus our prices are going up next year so it’s our last chance at the prices as they are now before the 5 percent increase,” he said.

The city offers memberships at several pricing levels, such as families — a family membership consists of two adults and dependent children 18 and under — one parent family households, individual and senior/youth.

The annual costs are between $125 regular price for seniors and youth members to $445 a year for a family membership.

Those who work for the Brunswick Schools or a local business or live outside the city pay an additional cost but can buy a membership for the recreation center.

The half-off discount includes all pricing tiers.

Scott said the sale usually attracts current members who are looking to renew as well as new customers hoping to get a membership. Popup sales usually attract more new customers, he said.

Scott also discussed the recreation center’s upcoming Christmas Celebration.

“In addition to that, we are having our city of Brunswick Christmas Celebration Party this Sunday,” he said.

The event will take place from 3-5 p.m. at the recreation center and a variety of activities and attractions will be at the Luau-themed party.

“We will be having Santa and the Grinch there,” said Scott.

There will be food including a nacho bar and there will also be a bouncy house and more.
