Medina Township police will be investigating whether the reported Saturday afternoon robbery at Discount Drug Mart, 5270 Center Road in Brunswick Hills Township, is related to a robbery in Medina Township that occurred later that day.

Two Medina County businesses were robbed at gunpoint several hours apart Saturday.

The armed robberies occurred at Discount Drug Mart in Brunswick Hills Township in the afternoon and Bob Evans in Medina Township later that night.

Outgoing Medina Township Police Chief David Arbogast said Sunday that three armed men gained entry into the Bob Evans restaurant at 3049 Medina Road about midnight Saturday.

“Basically, after they closed, three persons attacked one of the assistant managers who was taking out the trash, forced him and another manager into the office where the safe was,” Arbogast said.

After taking an unknown amount of money from the safe, the robbers then struck both employees with their handguns.

“They pistol whipped both employees and put them in another room,” Arbogast said.

Both employees were taken to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital for their injuries, he said.

“I know the one was treated and released and the other (individual) was supposed to be released.”

While the victims were able to provide police with basic descriptions, all men were reported to be white and around 25 years old, Arbogast said more specific details are lacking.

He said police do not have access to any surveillance footage, but the department is working to “canvass the area” to see if anything is available from nearby locations.

“(Bob Evans) did not have a camera system,” Arbogast said.

Brunswick Hills police said Sunday that additional information regarding a Saturday afternoon armed robbery at Discount Drug Mart, 5270 Center Road, would not be available until after the New Year’s holiday.

Arbogast said he learned about the Brunswick Hills robbery Sunday morning, and that police would be investigating to determine whether the two robberies are connected.

Management at both Bob Evans and Discount Drug Mart declined to comment Sunday.
