High winds cut power to 142 users


High winds were blamed for power outages to about 142 FirstEnergy customers in Medina County who still were without power Tuesday morning.

FirstEnergy serves 59,433 customers in the county, according to its website.

Less than 1 percent of its customers in Medina County experienced outages.

Most of the customers affected lived in Montville Township, where 45 homes were without power. Thirty-five families in Hinckley Township didn’t have power, while there were 22 in Liverpool Township.

As of 2 p.m., about 40 homes remained without power in the county.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory Monday and said gusts reached 50 mph.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office said it received “a ton of calls” Monday night, which reported trees and power lines down all over the county.

Temperatures reached a high of 60 degrees Monday.

As of Tuesday evening, FirstEnergy reported 10 outages in Medina County, and by Wednesday morning, that number was down to less than five.
