MONTVILLE TWP. — Known for its large portions and french fries, Rockne’s Restaurant has closed its doors.
Its last day was Wednesday after almost 11 years at 5121 Buehlers Drive.
Manager Sherry Nelson said Thursday the restaurant closed because the franchise owners were unable to renegotiate its lease with the building’s owner.
Nelson said she was shocked when she heard the news.
“Absolutely,” she said.
Nelson said many of her 50 employees and many in the community are saddened by the closing of the restaurant, which opened in December 2008.
Employees have been offered jobs at other Rockne’s restaurants in Brooklyn, Fairlawn, North Canton, Streetsboro, Stow, Massillon, Kent, Cuyahoga Falls and Akron.
She said she won’t be going to another Rockne’s “at this time.”
A sign on the front door thanked all the customers for their patronage.
“We’ve enjoyed serving you at this location,” it said. “Our Medina location has closed.”
Corporate employees were at the restaurant Thursday taking food products to other locations.
