MEDINA — The Medina County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet determined whether charges will be filed in the case of an infant child left in a hot vehicle Saturday afternoon at Ray Mellert Park.
Police said the 6-month-old girl died after being found unresponsive in the vehicle at the North Huntington Street park at about 2:15 p.m., and she was transported to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital where efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
“The matter is under review and there won’t be any further details until we hear the medical examiner’s report,” county Prosecutor S. Forrest Thompson said Sunday.
The infant’s body was transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, Medina County Coroner Lisa Deranek said.
Investigator Chris Harris of the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office said because the death occurred in Medina County, Deranek has jurisdiction over the case.
Deranek said she was not sure how long it would take for the autopsy to be completed because of the number of cases Cuyahoga County is handling.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, temperatures hovered around 90 degrees Saturday afternoon.
