Edward Richard Gonos
Edward Richard Gonos celebrated his 90th birthday on Jan. 17, 2018. He was born in Lorain in 1928 to Andrew Gonos and Mary Goc, both from Czechoslovakia. He had two sisters, Anna Bober and Helen Dukich, and one brother, John Gonos.
Growing up in Lorain he enjoyed dancing at the Palledium and Lincoln Ballroom in his early years, along with other local shops along Broadway in Lorain. He enjoyed roller skating in Lorain and Elyria and, with the help of his brother, he learned how to swim in Lake Erie and built his own scuba tanks.
He married Sue Lalonde on Dec. 7, 1958. They have four children — Audrey (Gene) Gargas in Hinckley, Mary Katherine (Jim) Hacker in Bloomingberg, Andrew (Kathleen) in Cincinnati and Eddie (Ellen) in Avon Lake — 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Edward worked for Bendix Westinghouse for 32 years and has been enjoying his retirement. Over the years he has done several woodworking projects for the kids to enjoy such as teeter totters, sand boxes, giraffes and other fun toys. He enjoys trains and is very artistic by decorating the house with his Disney wood characters and other projects.
His family says: “Happy birthday, Dad! We love you, and here’s to many more birthdays!”
