Roofer reportedly intoxicated

BRUNSWICK—Police were called to Fernwood Drive after receiving a report of intoxicated roofers who were getting ready to drive away from the job site around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.As police neared the scene, they reported seeing a Hinckley Roofing truck headed south on Rocklyn Drive down the center of the road toward Sleepy Hollow Road.According the report, the truck nearly drove off the road. Brunswick police stopped the truck after it turned onto Sleepy Hollow. The driver, John A. Garbicz,28, was charged with operating a vehicle intoxicated and told officers he had just come from a job site. Ed Walkuski, the owner of Hinckley Roofing, said the company has a zero tolerance policy and Garbicz has been suspended.“As a company, we just can’t tolerate that,”Walkuski said. “Our guys get drug tested all the time, and we have a no-drug policy. We also have zero tolerance for alcohol on the job.”Walkuski said his company would wait to see the outcome of the case in court before making a final decision about Garbicz’s employment.
