MEDINA TWP. — Kevin Norris said he’s happy he doesn’t have to drive to Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Fairlawn any more.
The Medina resident was the first customer served at the new Five Guys when it opened at 11 a.m. Monday at 4184 Pearl Road.
“I discovered it about three years ago,” Norris said. “I’m hooked, especially my wife (Colleen), who works at (A.I.) Root (Co.).”
He said people have been asking, “Why doesn’t someone open a Five Guys? I’m sure it’s going to take off.”
The Five Guys that opened Monday is the only one in Medina County. Besides Fairlawn, there are restaurants in Strongsville and Wooster.
“We’re about 20 minutes from any of the other stores,” project manager John Pugh said. “That way we’re not cannibalizing each other.”
He said they’ve hired about 50 people for the Medina Township location. Jessie Kennell is the general manager.
“When we first open, it’s going to be crazy busy,” he said. “We always over-hire to start.”
Pugh said there will be normal attrition, with employees coming and going.

Five Guys also hopes to be a community partner.
Chrystal Green, shared services manager, said Five Guys always is looking to help nonprofits, schools and church groups, and will host the Medina High School football team on Aug. 30 after practice.
“We always try to get involved with the community through fundraisers,” she said.
