MEDINA — A local company has adopted residents at Elmcroft of Medina to ensure the senior citizens are not forgotten this holiday season.
This is the 16th year employees at Diversified Employee Solutions (DES) have worked with Elmcroft to make holiday wishes come true. Thanks to wish lists put together by Elmcroft staff detailing just what residents desire, DES employees turned secret Santas are able to purchase a couple of gifts that each resident wants for Christmas.
The staff at the professional employer organization will then shop for each resident and wrap each gift, said Stefani Postek, the company’s human resource director. This year, the staff bought gifts for roughly 80 to 85 residents.
“They wanted to do something at the time of Christmas and ... it was thought that the elderly are often forgotten around the holidays and that is why they started to adopt the folks at this nursing home,” said Postek.
Two staff members will dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus and deliver the gifts to residents and the whole staff will attend and bring breakfast, stockings full of candy and more, said Postek.
“They are just so loving,” said Eileen Gilhousen, activity director at Elmcroft.
“This is a big thing so they are very excited about it. We, at Elmcroft, are just so grateful that they chose to adopt us as part of their family. We are just very, very grateful for that. How many companies do that now a days?”
The holiday extravaganza will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Elmcroft.
Gilhousen said residents are very excited for their Christmas celebration.
