BRUNSWICK –– The Brunswick school board passed a motion Tuesday to allow the district to pay for the replacement of the visitors bleachers at the high school football stadium.
The estimated cost for the project is about $500,000.
The district classified the replacement of the visitors’ bleachers at the Auto Mart Stadium as an urgent necessity.
“The district is declaring a case of urgent necessity for the emergency replacement of the visitor bleachers due to inspection failure,” said Superintendent Mike Mayell.
The district will be entering into a contract with E&D Specialty Stands, which is headquartered in North Collins, New York.
The district contacted three different national bleacher companies and E&D Specialty Stands was the only company to respond, Mayell said.
The company will be able to do all of the work in house which will decrease the lead time on the construction, Mayell said. Mayell said construction on the bleachers will begin as soon as possible.
In 2011, a $4.7 million renovation of the stadium was completed, including new bleachers, locker rooms, restrooms, concessions, new turf and other improvements.
The district also chose to renew its College Credit Plus agreement with Lorain County Community College for the 2019-20 school year.
Students from seventh through the 12th grade can sign up for college classes at the same time they sign up for their other classes through the program.
“We have multiple partnerships,” said Mayell.
Some of these include partnerships with the University of Akron, Cuyahoga Community College and Kent State University.
