Brunswick police: Man reportedly shoots self at Giant Eagle


BRUNSWICK — Police are investigating a shooting after responding Tuesday afternoon to the Giant Eagle on Center Road for a report of a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a short news release from Brunswick police, the incident happened around 2:45 p.m. Officers were still on scene hours later and the store remained closed.

Police did not identify the man, offer additional information on his medical condition or say where the shooting specifically took place.

In an official statement from Giant Eagle, it was said the shooting happened in Giant Eagle.

“We are heartbroken over the tragic event that took place in our Brunswick Giant Eagle this afternoon,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by the incident, including our team members and customers. We are grateful for the efforts of the first responders and are continuing to work with the authorities as they investigate the matter. We are offering support to all of our customers and team members, and have temporarily closed the location with plans to resume normal hours of operation by (Wednesday morning.)”

Police have advised anyone who witnessed the shooting and are in need of help to call 211 for assistance with crisis debriefing.
