GRAFTON TWP. — Residents along the 19000 block of Erhart Northern Road said they were shocked by sounds coming from a neighbor’s property across the street.

Phil Michon said he and his wife were inside their home about 5 p.m. Wednesday when they heard a popping noise that they first thought was gunfire. Michon’s wife called 911.

The noise turned out to be a fire in a wooden structure behind the house on the property.

“The flames were already 20 feet high and 30 feet wide; it was a huge fire,” he said.

Grafton Fire Department arrived at the scene, and Eaton Township firefighters provided mutual aid. Grafton Fire Lt. Chris Sukel said it was a total loss. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Residents at the property declined to comment.
