CHATHAM TWP. — A body was discovered Tuesday morning in a burning car on Garver Road, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the sheriff’s office, at 8:59 a.m. Tuesday, the Medina County sheriff’s office Communication Center received a call about black smoke coming from the area near an oil access road located off Garver Road in Chatham Township. The area is about 1 mile west of state Route 83.
The Chatham Township Fire Department along with sheriff’s deputies went to the location, where they found a vehicle fully involved in fire.
Once the fire was out, firefighters along with sheriff’s deputies discovered the body inside the vehicle.
It is not known at this time if the body was male or female. The make and model of the car was not released.
The sheriff’s office Detective Bureau along with the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, state Fire Marshall’s Office and Medina County Coroner’s Office are working jointly to determine the identity of the body found inside the car along with the cause of death.
The body was sent to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office.
The case is under investigation and no additional information is being released at this time.
The area around the oil access road is largely wooded and rural.
