Macy M. Hallock

July 19, 1925 - November 3, 2017

Macy Hallock, 92, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017. He was born July 19, 1925, the third child of the late Macy Orson and Clara Ulmer Hallock.

A proud lifetime resident of Medina, Macy graduated from Medina High School and then Case Institute of Technology with a degree in engineering. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Macy took a two-year sailboat trip of a lifetime with his buddies before marrying Clare Dickover in 1949 in Pleasantville, New York and returning to his beloved Medina to work in the family business. Forming partnerships with friends and family, he developed business and real estate throughout Medina County.

In business and civic work, Macy committed to building community as a volunteer and leader. He was a founding member and president of the Medina JayCees, a charter member and president of the Medina Memorial Pool Association, a 65-year member and committee chair of Noontime Kiwanis, president of the Greater Medina Chamber of Commerce, and served on additional boards and committees. He received many honors and awards in recognition of his energy and success, including the Northrop Heritage Award from the Medina County Historical Society (2016), induction into the Greater Medina Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame (2015) and the JayCees' Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award (1957).

Macy was a lifelong learner, avid historian and passionate collector of all manner of antiques, focusing principally on the Civil War and all things Medina. He readily shared his expertise with schools, civic groups, and pretty much anyone who would listen. He served as museum director for The Log Cabin Shop in Lodi and was a much-requested speaker on historical subjects.

Macy is survived by his children, Macy Monroe, Jr. (Rebecca), Debra Lee and Alan Bruce. In addition, he is also survived by his sister, Clara Louise Hallock Pearson; grandchildren, Macy Matthew (Jennifer), Michael (Meredith), Grant, Morgan, Lauren and Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Macy Robert and Delanie; many nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clare Dickover Hallock; son, Benjamin Koster (Kim) Hallock; brother, Bruce King Hallock; sister, Helen Hope Hallock Manning and grandson, Benjamin J. Hallock.

Services will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11 A.M., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
