Barbara Jean Uveges, 84, of Valley City, died peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2017, after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born March 8, 1933 in Cleveland, the daughter of Vera (Fuhr) and Louis Yerse.
She had one older sister, Lois and one younger brother, Bill (deceased). Barbie, as she was known to friends and family, attended Memorial School, Euclid Central Junior High and Northfield-Macedonia High School, where she was a cheerleader for the Knights. After graduating in 1950, she went to work for Air-Maze Corporation. It was while working here that she was introduced to her husband, Bill. Bill and Barbie were married September 3, 1955. Together, they raised three children, Jeffrey, Leslie and Mitchell.
After she was married, Barbie worked as a school secretary in Olmsted Falls before leaving to care for her family. Barbie later served as the corporation secretary for Welco Enterprises, Inc., the lumber business her husband Bill co-founded in 1968 and took sole ownership of in 1972. After Bill passed away in 2011, Barbie remained active in the business and worked with Bill's associates at Welco to keep "the yard" going.
When she was younger, Barbie enjoyed dancing with her husband Saturday nights and spending time with her family. She attended many horse shows in support of her family's interest in Quarter Horses and Paints. She was also an avid jazzerciser and antiquer. She and Bill often roamed the countryside on weekend drives in search of new properties and old kitchen wares. Throughout her life, she looked forward to Sunday football games and she remained loyal to the Browns right to the end.
Barb's absence will be felt by many, but her memory lives on with her son, Mitch (Frances) Uveges; her beloved grandson, Max; her sister, Lois Glosh and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road Brunswick and one hour prior to service. Services will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's name can be made to Medina County SPCA, 8790 Guilford Rd., Seville, OH 44273.
