George Rak, entered this world January 20, 1928 and was called peacefully to his Heavenly Home, 90 years later Saturday, January 20, 2018. George was born in Cleveland, to the late Louis V. and Mary (nee Kato) Rak.
He was a graduate of West Tech High School, Class of 1946. George was drafted immediately after graduation, he was a proud Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. After service, George attended Fenn College of Engineering, now Cleveland State University. George started as an apprentice sheet metal worker at Local 65 in Cleveland and was initiated as a Journeyman in 1955. He was a proud member of Local 65 and Local 33 for 67 years.
George has been a member of the Medina Methodist Church for 60 plus years and a 50 plus year member of the following Masonic Lodges, Medina Lodge #58, F. & A.M., Medina County Chapter #243 Royal Arch Masons, Medina Commandery #84 Knights Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Order of Eastern Star Medina Chapter #266 and the Medina County Scottish Rite Society.
He was involved in the following organizations for many years, Medina County Farm Bureau, Medina County Historical Society, Northern Ohio Railway Museum and West Tech Alumni Association.
George and Barbara built their home in Valley City and lived there for 55 years. George always enjoyed music and singing his favorite tunes. He and his wife Barbara enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling in the lower 48 states of the U.S.
George was a fan of trains (especially steam trains) and the couple spent their retirement years riding trains in many surrounding states.
Everyone who knew George found him to be an honest, strong and loyal man. He was always a dependable and diligent worker. He will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Spieth), married 62 years; loving son and daughter-in-law, George Louis Vincent Rak (Rebecca) and cherished grandson, George Louis Vincent Rak, Jr. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Metzler (Henry); sisters-in-law, Jami Rak and Anneta Rak; many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
George was preceded in death by brothers, Louis, Joseph and John Rak; sisters, Mary Starkey, Margaret Lewton, Anna Stephanson and Matilda Borsi.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M., Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Medina Methodist Church, 4747 Foote Road, Medina, where a Masonic Service will be held 11:45 A.M., followed by a celebration of life service at 1 P.M. with The Reverend Dr. David Tennant, officiating and Care Ministries Pastor, Susan Hume, assisting. Burial will follow service at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Valley City, with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given in George's memory to the Medina United Methodist Church, deeds of Mercy Fund, 4747 Foote Road, Medina, OH 44256 or to the Lodi Family Center, P.O. Box 432, Lodi, OH 44254.
