Gerald Tirch

Gerald Tirch, 64, of Brunswick, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his home. He was born March 10, 1953 in Oberlin. Gerald had made his home in Oberlin for 44 years, before moving to Brunswick, where he had resided for over 20 years.

He was a graduate of Oberlin High School. Gerald received his Bachelor of Engineering from Cleveland State University. He was employed as a new product engineer at Energy Focus for the past four years. Prior to that, Gerald had worked for Gilford Instruments in Oberlin for 22 years. Gerald was a member of the M2M Amateur Radio Club in Medina. He was a past member of both St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst and Grace Lutheran Church in Oberlin.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sharon Tirch (nee Hohn); daughters, Naomi Grattan (Peter J. Grattan) and Katrina McDonald (Marty), both of Dallas, Georgia, Deanna Berrios (Tony) of Lorain; grandchildren, Ashley and Stephen Grattan, Austin Gatchell, Anthony, Meghan and Cameron Berrios and his great-granddaughter, Aroura Grattan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Tirch; sisters, Shirley Ann Tirch, Kathy Tirch and Constance Twining and his parents, John and Ruth Tirch (nee Riemer).

Friends may call Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 12:30 P.M. in the funeral home. The Reverend Philip Zielinski, Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Valley City, will officiate. Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Gerald's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
