Truman Otheman Smith, 86, of Medina, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 surrounded by his family. Truman was born in Cleveland on March 7, 1931 to the late Truman Bootman and Thelma (Schauffle) Smith.
While earning his bachelor's degree, Truman played football at Dennison University under Woody Hayes. He later earned his master's degree in counseling from John Carroll University. Truman served his Country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later protected it as a part-time police officer for Woodmere. Truman worked as a guidance counselor in the Cleveland Hts./University Hts. School District for 25 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol V. (Donaldson) Smith; devoted daughters, Allison (Kurt) Aukerman, Stacy (Daniel) Schwaderer and Jennifer (Scott) Stachler; dear grandchildren, Macey and Spencer Aukerman, Taylor, Travis and Truman Karczewski, Danielle (Peter) Lux, Travis and Austin Schwaderer, Savanah, Gretchen and Michael Stachler.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Smith.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. A funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Friday, February 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
