On Monday, December 11, 2017, Donna joined her husband, Richard, who preceded her in death in 2002 her mother, brother, other family members and friends who have passed on. Donna was surrounded by three generations of her family at the time of her passing.
She was a proud Clevelander where her love of flowers and gardening was first developed at the Victory Garden at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
At James Rhodes High School, she was a member of her cherished Decum sorority of classmates, who became lifelong friends. Rhodes is also where she met her future husband, Richard "Dick" Dunn.
Dick and Donna married in 1950 and she joined him in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was stationed at SAC Headquarters with the U.S. Air Force. It was there that their daughter, Jill was born.
The young family moved back to Cleveland and Donna was the Executive Secretary to the President of Broadview Savings and Loan.
Several years later, when Scott was born, Donna stayed home and worked her creative magic on their new home in Parma caring for her children and foster children, while Dick attended undergraduate college and law school at night.
Donna cherished her family and was always sure to make every holiday and birthdays, an extravaganza full of family, surprises, great food and fun. The family always included a beloved dog and sometimes other creatures.
In 1967, Donna and Dick purchased a cottage at Chippewa Lake. They had vacationed there when young and it was there that precious memories were made playing games, water skiing, boating, watching sunsets and visiting with family and friends. She gave her children all the opportunity that she was unable to have as a child.
Donna enjoyed many experiences traveling in Europe, the U.S. and Mexico. Donna had a great eye and could transform anything into something of beauty and function.
This independent, Aries Woman, loved red and was active in her community serving at polling places, as a member of the Parma Women's League, a nursery attendant at Parma Lutheran Church and on the PTA. If you met Donna, you would have remembered her. She was stylish and smart, glamorous and witty.
Most important to her was her family as she spent many years caring for her children, foster children, her mother, great aunt and others who needed her. Donna led a full life.
This matriarch will be dearly missed by friends and family; her children, Jill and Bill Heck, Scott and Carol Dunn; grandchildren, Caroline (Matt) Gatsch, Aisa (Michael) Claybon, Alison (Chuck) Albers, Robert (Becky) Vaccari and Elizabeth (Mark) Knapke and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 1 P.M. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 400 North Broadway, Medina.
Memorial donations may be made to Medina Salvation Army (Learning Zone Program), 425 W. Liberty Street, Medina, OH 44256.
