Dr. Harlan B. Johnson "Hal", 95, long time resident of Medina, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 3, 1922, to the late Wilbur and Ethleen (Hughes) Johnson.
Harlan retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass, where he held many patents working as the head research chemist. He was the writer and editor of the newsletter "Parents Speak" that advocated for parents of disabled children. In addition, he served this community as a member of the Governor's Cabinet.
Harlan was an accomplished pianist. He played for hours from memory entertaining family and friends with classical pieces as well as popular tunes from the 40's. He and his wife, Mary enjoyed traveling worldwide. They also enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing for many years. Harlan, Mary and son, Warren, were long standing members of Grace Baptist Church.
Harlan is survived by his daughters, Caroyln (Tom, deceased) Keating, Kathryn (Roger) Goodfellow; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Johnson; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and sons, David and Warren Johnson.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Harlan and his late wife, Mary on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 12 Noon, followed by fellowship and refreshments at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina.
