Robert H. Pennock, Jr., 89, of Medina, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Saturday, December 30, 2017. Bob was born August 23, 1928 in Cleveland, to the late Robert Sr. and Marian (nee Bidwell) Pennock. He resided in Berea for 30 years prior to moving to Medina in 1976.
Bob attended Shaker Hts. High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army prior to graduation. He then attended John Hay High School, graduated with his GED and then completed his education at Ohio University with a BS in Agriculture in February 1953.
Bob became owner of the Howell Automatic, Strongsville in 1964. He was a past President of the Berea Rotary. Additionally, Bob had owned and operated the CrossCreek Engineering (a model train shop) in Spencer for 15 years and was the former owner of Wellington Lawn & Garden.
Bob was a trustee of the Northern Ohio Railway Museum. He had a great love for trains. Bob not only loved his family, he loved animals and working with his hands. He had a curious and inventive mind and entrepreneurial spirit. He never stopped working or creating.
He is survived by his children, Pam Unkrich (Sandra Hupp), Linda Jacobson-Longnaker (deceased), Anne Pennock, Mary Striker, Robert H. Pennock III (Pamela); grandchildren, Keri Cullin (Kipp), Adam Striker (Emma Stime), Grace Striker, Isabelle Striker (Kris Meyer), Chris Biedenharn (Troy), Morgan Phillips (Aurora), Karl and Wes (Nicole) Jacobson, Isaac and Sam Pennock; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Callahan (Ryan Weller), Anthony, Stephanie and Stephen Russo, Wesley and Lucia Phillips, Kayla Mitchell, Savanna and Indiana Jacobson, Elijah Haynes, DiVaunta Spearman, Kadin Meyer; great-great-grandchildren, Gabriel Callahan, Sid and Violet Russo; sister and brother, Marian (Chuck) Calhoun (both deceased) and Isaac Newton Pennock (deceased) (wife Mary); uncle to many; former spouses/mother of his children, Betty Unkrich (deceased) and Anne L. Pennock and former son-in-law, Randall Striker
At Bob's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held 1 P.M., Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. Friends and family may gather from 11 A.M. until the time of the service at 1 P.M. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorials may be made to the Northern Ohio Railway Museum, P.O. Box 458, Chippewa Lake, OH 44215-0458.
The family of Bob Pennock would like to give a special "Thank You" to the Compassionate Care Hospice and the Brookdale Medina South for all their tender loving care given to their father.
