Bessie E. Keller, 100, quietly and peacefully entered onto a new journey on Thursday, July 12, 2018 surrounded by her family. Bess was born and raised in Brunswick and spent her entire life as a Medina County resident.
Her great-great-grandfather was one of the original surveyors of the Western Reserve and one of the original settlers of Brunswick. She married Paul Keller in 1941 and they spent 70 happy years together.
Bess graduated from Brunswick High School in 1936 and Baldwin Wallace College in 1940 and then began a teaching career that spanned four decades. She received her Master's Degree from Tufts University and enjoyed teaching Latin and English. Her love of children and books remained throughout her life. In addition, she loved watching birds, growing flowers, traveling and for many years had a hobby of cake decorating. She was a member of the Medina County Retired Teachers Association as well as Farm Bureau and other organizations.
Bess was the loving mother of Leonard (Laurie) of Ashland; proud grandmother of Erich (Brooke) of Hilliard, Ohio and Gretchen Asbeck (Mike) of West Chester, Ohio; she was also most proud of her two great-grandsons, Jacob and Maxwell Asbeck of West Chester, Ohio.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City and funeral services will be at 11 A.M., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1377 Lester Road, Valley City. The Reverend Philip Zielinski will officiate. There will be an hour viewing Wednesday, prior to the funeral service at church. She will be laid to rest in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Valley City next to Paul, the love of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Medina County Library.
