Leo Gorfido, 83, of Medina, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Brookdale Medina South. He was born December 27, 1934 in Strongsville, to the late Samuel and Carmela Gorfido.

Leo was a lifetime resident of Medina and a proud 1952 Medina High School graduate. He was always involved in athletics, excelling at football, basketball and baseball. He was a Medina High School Quarterback and played on Erhart Baseball Team, which resulted in his being drafted by the St. Louis Browns, but instead he opted to start a family and his business. He began a lifelong friendship with Cy Young award winning pitcher Dean Chance. His love of basketball went beyond participation, to include many years of officiating for local area high schools.

Leo was a home builder by trade and after retirement his passion became his horses, raising, training and racing at Northfield Park and Pompano Park.

He is survived by Lois Gorfido his longtime companion and mother of his children; daughter, Marcie; sons, Dan and Tim (Kathy); grandchildren, Nathan (Sara), Zack (Alicia), Nick (Amanda), Caitlyn (Bryan) Guajardo, Devin, Chelsea, Tyler and Trevor and his seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Carmela and siblings, James, Angie, Pete, Sam, Tresa and Margie.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff at both Brookdale Medina South and Brookdale Hospice for their compassionate care of Leo in his final months and days and their support to our family.

The family will receive friends during visitation on Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 2 to 6 P.M. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road Brunswick. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately after at Spring Grove Cemetery, Medina.
