Ira "Ike" C. Surrarrer


Ira "Ike" C. Surrarrer, 84, of Chatham Township (Spencer) passed away peacefully Sunday, August 19, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer.

He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a real family man. He loved spending time with his family, always making them his number one priority. He enjoyed gardening and his flower beds and could usually be found working in them most mornings. Ira was a man of true strength and character maintaining his awesome sense of humor right up to his passing.

Born, on his family farm, in Chatham, October 30, 1933. Ira attended Chatham School until 11th grade. He then moved to Pennsylvania with his parents, where he graduated from Conneautville High School. Upon graduating, Ira returned to Chatham and began working at Chippewa Lake Park where he met the love of his life, LaRue Stoessner. They were married on September 24, 1955, spending the next 59 amazing years together, before her passing April 8, 2015.

Ike worked at Standard Welding and Steel in Medina for 47 years retiring as a foreman.During his retirement he worked part time at the Medina County Career Center as an assistant welding instructor and really enjoyed his students for a few years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaRue; his parents, Archie and Edith Surrarrer; brothers, Everett, Archie, Jim, Wilbur; sister, Wilma; three older siblings who passed prior to his birth and granddaughter, Mary Sue.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Winemiller (Dave); her sons, Brent Huffman (Xioul); great-grandchildren, Edith (6) and Edward (5), Ryan Huffman (Shannon); great-grandson, Xander (10 mo.); son, Dennis Surrarrer (Salena); his sons and daughters, Brian Surrarrer (Irma); great-grandson, Gunner (8); son, Nick Surrarrer (Joanna); great-granddaughter, Emma (4); son, Tony Surrarrer; daughters, Jessica Surrarrer and Elizabeth Surrarrer (15).

He will be deeply missed by family, friends and past co-workers.

Special thanks to Irma for the extra care as well as Tony and Jessica for time they spent with Ira.
