Russ H. Ohm crossed home plate for the final time on Sunday, August 19, 2018.
Giving him "high fives" as he passed through the dugout were his children, Hannah and Josiah Ohm of Gilbert, Arizona; father, Richard Ohm; siblings, Elaine Ohm (Jim McClintock), Nancy Skala (Ken) and David Ohm; nieces and nephews, Angela Funk (Brian), Danielle Skala, Matt Skala, Wyatt and Weston Funk.
As Russ entered the locker room, he was greeted by his mother, Shirley Ohm (Narrows) and still born son, Micah.
Russ was born November 26, 1957 and graduated from Columbia High School in 1976. A 1983 graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, Russ decided to leave the snow and cold behind and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked for the Gilbert School system and American Woodmark. In the Arizona sun, he was able to purse his love of baseball, as a player, umpire and coach. Over the years, he coached many youth teams, including wrestling, baseball and softball.
He was an active member of Bethany Community Church in Tempe and started a singles group with them. In addition, he did missionary work, traveling to Spain and South America to spread the word of the Lord. He also had passion for airplanes, getting his private pilot's license in 2003.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the community room at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. Attendees are encouraged to sport their favorite Indians apparel. Russ was always a huge Indians fan over the years.
