Betty L. Marquart, 82, of Rittman, died Monday, January 21, 2019 at University Hospital in Cleveland, following a period of declining health. She was born September 17, 1936 in Sardis, Ohio, to the late John and Irma (Imhoff) Klotzle.
Betty graduated in 1954 in the first graduating class of Norwayne High School. She graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. in Education. She married Walter F. Marquart on December 26, 1964, in Rittman and has been happily married to him for over 54 years.
She was a member of the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church. She taught fourth grade for nine years and taught three years in the summer reading program in the Rittman Schools. She was a den mother for the Rittman Cub Scouts. The family moved to Ballston Lake, New York in 1978 and she was a member of the Shenendehowa P.T.S.A. Board for several years. She was a reading and math volunteer for 14 years in the Rise in Support of Education at Shenendehowa Schools. The family moved back to Rittman, in 1992, where she was a volunteer for nine years teaching in the Adult Basic Literacy Education Program in Rittman. She was captain for 11 years for the Crusaders Against Cancer Team for the Rittman-Doylestown Relay for Life. She volunteered for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for 23 years.
Betty enjoyed following her children and grandchildren's activities. She loved baking, making homemade chocolates, traveling, reading, antiquing, refinishing furniture and painting fine China.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Walt are two sons, Michael (Marietta) Marquart of Hudson and Stephen (Regina) Marquart of Warwick, Rhode Island; daughter, Michelle (Mark) Christeon of Medina; special granddaughters, Marie-Ange, Evangeline, Paige (Sean), Erin, Camille and Corinne; brother, Harold Klotzle of Ravenna; sister, Inez Ramsier of Marshallville; sisters-in-law, Favonia Marquart of Baltimore, Ohio and Jane Klotzle of Rittman and many special nieces and nephews. Betty was also very excited to meet her first great-grandchild, who is due to be born this spring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Irwin Klotzle; sister, Eileen Emch; brothers-in-law, Robert Ramsier, David Emch and Kenneth Marquart; sister-in-law, Lou Klotzle; stepfather, Noah Hilty; stepbrother, Herbert Hilty and stepnephew, Bernie Hilty.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church, 10699 Steiner Rd., Rittman, with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, or from 9:30 to 10:15 A.M., Friday morning, January 25, 2019 at the church.
