William Martin "Bill" Dunn, Jr., 80, of Westfield Center, passed away after a long illness Thursday, April 11, 2019. He was born in New London, to William and Marian (White) Dunn, Sr.
Bill was reared in the small town that he loved and shared with lots of cousins and friends. While attending New London High School he earned 11 letters in four sports. After graduating, Bill attended Bowling Green State University and received his Bachelor of Education and met his wife, Jacqulyn. Bill and Jackie moved to Medina in 1960, where he taught and coached for the Medina City Schools. Nine years later, the U.S. State Department appointed him to coach the National Libyan Tennis Team, but this was not to be due to the Seven Day War.
He was the first full time Medina City Parks and Recreation Director. During his time as director, most of the present park land was acquired. The development of the tennis courts, football, baseball and soccer fields, nature trails and the first disc golf in Ohio, were some of his lasting accomplishments. After retiring from the city, Bill had a second career selling real estate in Medina County. Bill loved music, British comedy programs, animals, watching sports, fishing, family genealogy and growing flowers outdoors. Among his honors were, YMCA Alonzo Stagg Award for his work with youth, Jaycee's Young Man of the Year Award, Medina Rotary Citizen of the Year and his appointment to the board of directors for Falconskeep Gardens. Additionally, Bill will forever be memorialized at the Bill Dunn Field, a football field for youth teams.
Bill leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Jacqulyn; daughter, Lisa (Tim) Saneda of Lemon Grove, California; son, Kevin (Lisa Ann) Dunn of Westfield Center and granddaughters, Emily and Megan Dunn.
