Kenneth Eugene Highman

Kenneth Eugene Highman "Pappy" was taken from us unexpectedly on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Kenneth was born May 15, 1948 in Medina. He spent all 70 years of his life in Medina County and no one was prouder to call Medina his home than Kenneth. He grew up in Litchfield and later moved to Chippewa Lake, where he spent the past 31 years.

For the past 47 years, he worked at the A.I. Root Candle Company in Medina. Every morning he would arrive early to enjoy a cup of coffee, read the Medina County Gazette and socialize with his coworkers before starting the day. Throughout his years at Root he performed a variety of tasks, but no matter what the job was he always took it on with conviction and pride.

Kenneth had several interests and he was very passionate about all of them. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers, Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes and professional wrestling. He spent many years umpiring youth baseball and once was offered the opportunity to go to professional umpiring school in Florida, but instead opted to keep his feet firmly planted in Medina with his family. Kenneth was known for his love of yard work. It wasn't uncommon for him to mow his yard two or more times a week from May to October.

For all of the things that he enjoyed, nothing made him happier than spending time with his son. One of their traditions was to go to the Medina County Fair every year on opening night and watch the Demolition Derby. Over the past 35 years they only missed a handful of these events and this July will mark the first time in 14 years that they won't be there together.

Kenneth truly was loved by all that met him. He just had a way about him that made you feel good. Anyone that knew him would tell you that you would be hard pressed to ever find a more genuine human being than Kenneth Highman. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and life will never be quite the same without him.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Allen and his mother, Bessie; brothers, James, Paul and Ralph; sisters, Erma and JoAnne and his longtime friend, Jane Roshon Podsiadlo.

He is survived by his son and best friend, Kenny (Brandi) of Seville; brother, Richard Highman (Janice) of Sharon Center; sister, Kathy Myers (Hershey) of Spencer Lake; granddaughter, Cassandra Beck and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place Monday, April 22nd, 2019 at Armstrong Funeral Home, 25 Pleasant St., Seville from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Medina County ASPCA, 8790 Guilford Rd., Seville, OH 44273.
